An extraordinary and heartfelt portrait of Mexico at the beginning of the seventies, shot in black and white, depicting lives and occurrences of an upper middle class family in Mexico City's Colonia Roma, where the director grew up as a child. A great cinematic experience.

"Exercise of style" is often a pretty abused expression to indicate a movie (or else) that is a sort of showoff of the director: in this case, unfortunately, it's totally appropriate. It's not a failure (Silvio Orlando's performance is monumental and the visual aspect is awesome), but Sorrentino's approach, in my opinion, has undertaken an insubstantial direction. Mark: 6.5 / 10
