Ma ma

Not a masterpiece, not particularly original, somewhat superficial. But the cast is phenomenal and it's impossible not to be involved in Magda's fierce will of survival. Mark: 6.5 / 10

Bohemian Rhapsody

At last, I succeeded in watching this incredibly praised biopic about one of the most iconic singers of all time: the legendary Freddie Mercury. What can I say? That the movie is undoubtedly very good, though not a masterpiece. But the awesome performance by the extraordinary Rami Malek is without a doubt unmissable. Mark: 8 / 10

The English Teacher

The strange thing about this movie is that it maintains a sort of weird rhythm throughout the development of the plot: but, in the end, it leads to nothing. The typical wasted opportunity, despite a good performance by the extremely talented Julianne Moore. Mark: 5 / 10

Paterson

A gentle, mild-mannered, whispered hymn to poetry and to a specific kind of cinema: the one that explores the inner beauty of the human being, no matter what his or her surface may suggest. Great performance by the incredibly talented Adam Driver and brilliant script and direction by the eclectic Jim Jarmusch. Mark: 8 / 10

Boy Erased

Overall, a decently nice product. The highlight is definitely the cast (Hedges and Crowe are awesome), while the rest struggles to maintain its quality level. Not unmissable. Mark: 7 / 10

Joker

This movie HAS to be watched because of the out-of-this-world performance by the magnificent Joaquin Phoenix, who delivers one of the most impressive portrayals of the Joker ever made. Overall, a very good film with an incredibly original score. Mark: 8 / 10

Tomb Raider (2018)

Pretty boring and conventional reboot. Decent cast and crew. Completely missable. Mark: 5.5 / 10

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Third chapter of one of the most praised animated franchises of all time, this movie is, again, a success. Despite not being so original here and there, it succeeds in thrilling and moving and entertaining from the beginning to the awesome ending. Mark: 8 / 10

BlacKkKlansman

The most interesting and involving part of this picture is the last, when director Spike Lee opposes the two gatherings in an awesome crescendo. The first half, however, is pretty slow and quite tiresome. Overall, an enjoyable movie with a witty script and a good cast. Mark: 7 / 10

Tom à la ferme

Directed and played by the Canadian enfant prodige Xavier Dolan, this is a pretty intriguing and somewhat disturbing adaptation of the theatrical pièce by Michel Marc Bouchard. Interesting, but not unmissable. Mark: 6.5 / 10

Made in Italy

This 2018 movie written and directed by Luciano Ligabue is no more and no less than a bunch of annoying commonplaces, accompanied by the usual unbearable performance by Stefano Accorsi. The only reason why I watched this awful product was Kasia Smutniak, whose talent drowns in this intolerable picture. Mark: 2 / 10

Mary Queen of Scots

Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie: this is the reason why this movie must be seen. Overall it could be considered a pretty enjoyable product, though lacking introspection and depth, but these two astonishing actresses deliver first class performances that make the story of Mary Stuart worth a viewing. Mark: 7 / 10

Quand on a 17 ans

A pretty enjoyable French movie by the talented director André Téchiné, it deserves to be watched for the unconventional depiction of a gay coming of age experience. The two main actors deliver a very strong performance, but Sandrine Kiberlain is exceptional in her double-faced role. Mark: 7.5 / 10

Knives Out

Great and heterogeneous cast, impeccable staging and production, solid and witty script. With an eye to Agatha Chistie and the other to Hercule Poirot, it's an almost perfect example of modern whodunit you don't want to miss. Mark: 8 / 10

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood

Praise to Mr. Tarantino for twisting terrible episodes that, unfortunately, took place in our sick reality: the last twenty minutes of this movie are in fact cathartic and somewhat touching. It's a real pity that, despite great acting efforts by DiCaprio and Pitt, this film is definitely too long and too many scenes are dragged out for an unbearable amount of time. Undoubtedly one of the least convincing movies from this director. Mark: 6.5 / 10

Parasite (기생충)

The breakthrough movie of 2020 is actually something you won't have to miss. Maybe here and there there are not particularly original approaches to the plot, but overall the script is extremely witty and fluent, the cast is phenomenal and the technical aspect is more than consistent. Oh, and the four Academy Awards won by this little gem (including best picture and director) are incontestable. Mark: 9 / 10

Bombshell

A magnificent cast (Charlize Theron and John Lithgow are both Oscar-worthy), a more than thorny deed, a script that depicts, clarifies, but also confuses and simplifies one of the most shocking stories of the recent past. Overall, a solid and good product. Mark: 8 / 10

Rocketman

Elton John's biopic is a decent musi-movie with a decent cast (singing quite well) and a decent plot. Nothing to be thrilled about, but overall enjoyable. Mark: 7 / 10

1917

Two takes, one-hour long each. The camera always glued to the main characters. A message to deliver during WWI. Two young soldiers. An in-depth experience. A stunning cinematography. An awesome score. An unmissable motion picture. Mark: 8 / 10
