The Girl on the Train

Having read the novel, I knew, more or less, what to expect. This big screen adaptation lacks the same elements the book does, but adds confusion and predictability. Blunt's talent here is so pretty much wasted. Mark: 6 / 10

Arrival

Witty, intriguing, intelligent and emotional, this movie stands out of the usual sci-fi products with elegance and originality. Amy Adams, in the end, delivers a stunning performance. Mark: 8 / 10

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Being a huge Tim Burton's fan, I was more than curious to see this intriguing adaptation: well, if I may say that the first half does have its own "fascination", I must admit that the latter part lacks in originality and interest, and all seems to be built just to fancy the youngest crowds. Mark: 6.5 / 10

Brooklyn

It might not be one of the most original movies of this century, and the second half doesn't hold the candle to the first, but I really appreciated the rhythm, story and cast of this gracious movie. And Saoirse Ronan is a gem. Mark: 8.5 / 10

Alice Through the Looking Glass

A bit more enjoyable than the first adaptation of the renowned girl in Wonderland. But since that first one was a catastrophe, this is just a little less than a disaster. Mark: 5 /10

X-Men: Apocalypse

Meh. Not a single emotion or jolt in this ninth instalment of the popular comics saga. Just routine. Unfortunately, a pretty boring routine. Mark: 5.5 / 10

The Age of Adaline

Frankly, I cannot understand the underestimation of this subtle, delicate, intelligent, intimate and incredibly moving movie. But, for once, I'm glad to stand outside the throng of so-called experts. An unmissable gem. Mark: 9 / 10

Florence Foster Jenkins

Can't say anything about the cast (Meryl is Meryl and Simon Helberg is awesome), can't say anything about the accurate technical aspect, can't say anything about the respectful script. What this movie lacks is a proper soul. But it's more than enjoyable anyway. Mark: 7 / 10

Spotlight

A solid, enjoyable, maybe a bit too exemplified depiction of the investigation that started it all. A great cast (except for Ruffalo, always too larger than life) as an appreciated topping. A must see for so many of us. Mark: 8 / 10

Gods of Egypt

Though panned by critics (and viewers) all around the world, this extremely ambitious movie is far from being unforgettable, but succeeds in achieving an important accomplishment: it doesn't bore. Mark: 5.5 / 10

Moonlight

Tender, light and deep. A very good cast, a script that tends not to be overpowering, a very subtle and talented direction, a movie that doesn't want to be special, but succeeds in being unique. Mark: 8.5 / 10

La La Land

La La What? 14 nominations? A record-breaking winner of seven Golden Globe awards? BAFTA winner? Oh please. This is a good movie with pretty good actors and a good (though not particularly original) script. Nothing more than that. Mark: 7 / 10

Perfetti sconosciuti

Winner of the 2016 David di Donatello prize (the Italian Academy Award) as Best Picture of the year (and Best Screenplay), this is an unmissable movie, with a magnificent cast and a stunning script. Mark: 8.5 / 10

The Jungle Book (2016)

In this more and more boring/annoying universe of sequels/prequels/spinoffs and so on, that's an honest product, technically magnificent and quite entertaining. Mark: 6 / 10

Kung Fu Panda 3

In one word: boring. Nothing else to add to this useless third installment of the popular saga. Mark: 5 / 10

Deadpool

Witty? Somehow. Entertaining? A bit. Over-the-top? Definitely. Boring? A LOT. But the perfect word to describe this ambitious movie is messy. Way too messy. Mark: 6 / 10
