Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

Nothing more than a divertissement full of flaws: at least it's bearable till the end itself, but don't waste time trying to catch it up... Mark: 5,5 / 10

Oz the Great and Powerful

Enjoyable prequel to the magnificent Wizard of Oz , though pretty light and lacking substance. James Franco, unlike ...always, seems even empathetic. Mark: 6,25 / 10

Monsters University

Way way far from the first chapter (though this is a prequel), this product confirms that Disney and Pixar together completely lost the genius of the Pixar alone. What a pity. Mark: 5,5 / 10

Sorry, my beloved T

I forgot about the first anniversary of your "departure": I'm literally shocked, I can't understand how it could have happened. Sorry, T, you know I think about you every single day of my life.

Gravity

Technically out of this world. Great performance delivered by Sandra Bullock. Outstanding first half, the second half is nothing more than nice (thanks to the unbalanced script). However, a new movie frontier. Mark: 8,25 / 10

Wreck-It Ralph

The subject is extremely interesting, the first twenty minutes are explosive, the rest is mere boredom. What a pity: it could have been a very nice cartoon... Mark: 5,5 / 10

Laputa - Castle in the Sky

Just saw this Hayao Miyazaki's cartoon, released in 1986: some ideas and aspects comes from his fabulous vision, the rest is pretty dull. But his best came later... Mark: 5,5 / 10

Barilla's complete lack of foresight

Guido Barilla stated that the gay tribe should choose another pasta brand: no problem, dear homophobe, we won't starve. In the meantime, eat our shit and ...dive into it.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Far far away from the epic wonders of Lord of the Rings , this movie (first of three installments) is reasonably entertaining and sophisticatedly light. Though considering the totally different approach of the books, it's nevertheless an unsatisfactory journey. Mark: 6,5 / 10

Movies, interrupted.

I started watching My Week with Marilyn, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and, above all, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close: for different reasons, I chose not to complete their viewing. I'll try again in the future, maybe with another approach.

The Hunger Games

Adored by critics and crowds, I have to admit it doesn't disappoint: there's a strong gap between the (great) first half and the (weak) second one, though. But in the end it's an enjoyable product. Mark: 7 / 10

Brave

Dull, uninteresting, sappy and lethally predictable: frankly I cannot understand how this "thing" could have won the Academy Award... Mark: 5 / 10

Skyfall

Apart from Adele's magnificent song and a couple of nice scenes, there's nothing more to bring to life in this rather tedious film. Considering the overall flattering reviews, a great disappointment. Mark: 5,5 / 10

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

How to completely spoil a movie after a very promising and catchy first half: what a pity. I think I'll remember about this movie just for Kristin Scott Thomas' explosive character. Mark: 5 / 10

Margin Call

A truly remarkable movie, with a magnificent cast and an incredibly well-written story. That is, unfortunately, the dawn of the financial mud we're eating now. Mark: 8,5 / 10

Hair, hair and more hair

Dear real (and less real), manly (and less manly), authentic (and less authentic) MEN, would you please stop shaving your bodies??? I barely accept this JUST from swimmers. And I said barely.

Mediocrity

I think this is "the" word that depicts with utmost precision the community we're living in.

Humble Pope

It apparently seems that the new Pope, Francis I, will dramatically enhance the return of the Roman Catholic order to the ancient virtues. I strongly hope so.

Shy hunks?

I firmly believe that the vast majority of naturally sexy men are not aware of their incredible appeal. Period.

Magic Mike

Tatum, Pettyfer, Manganiello and Bomer are soooooo hot. The rest lacks inventiveness, rhythm and strength. Mark: 6,25 / 10

Fabulous Seth

Great Oscar ceremony, regardless of the winners. Mr. McFarlane was simply perfect. I really really enjoyed it.

Django Unchained

This movie seems more a divertissement than a homage, but the result is pretty enjoyable. The sure thing is the magnificent acting delivered by the whole cast, DiCaprio and Jackson above everyone else. Mark: 8 / 10

Amour

Dry, courageous, emotionally blackmailing, not particularly original, magnificently acted: the overall result is pretty dystonic, but Trintignant and Riva's performances are simply stunning. Mark: 7,75 / 10

Lincoln

The first hour is lethally wordy, the acting is excellent but a bit self-conscious, the overall result is pretty satisfactory. I wouldn't rush and see it, though. Mark: 7,5 / 10

Grooming

I love my bathroom, especially when I'm not in a hurry...

Les Misérables

Despite some partly weak characterizations (Crowe, Baron Cohen and Bonham Carter) and a stentorian rhythm in the central segment, it's overall a great musical, with stunning performances by Jackman, Hathaway and Redmayne. Mark: 8,25 / 10

Beasts of the Southern Wild

Strong, original, rough movie, with a magnificent little actress. Definitely worth watching. Mark: 8 / 10

SHAME SHAME SHAME

Have you carefully read the previous post? Good. Now, dear AMPAS and Ernst&Young, would you please stop saying that nothing happened in the online voting process??? Thanks to "what almost certainly happened" and your subsequent silence the most talented director of 2012 won't be able to receive what he deserves: the Oscar. Shame shame shame on both of you.

Triumph

Ben Affleck, the director, has won the Golden Globe, the DGA Award and the BAFTA. If we add the Golden Globe, the PGA, the SAG (Best Ensemble) and the BAFTA won by Argo, the movie, we can state that Mr. Affleck and his creature have won so far EVERY possible prize.

Hugo (Cabret)

Now I can definitely state Scorsese's not my director. Hugo, in fact, reflects all the flaws I usually identify in his pictures: it's almost constantly boring, with an above the lines (or flat) acting and a magnificent but mellow technical presentation. Mark: 5,75 / 10

The Dark Knight Rises

Bloated, boring, distorting the inner meaning of Batman itself: a heartless movie, with sumptuous visual effects and an incredibly presumptious director. Mark: 5,5 / 10

Argo-mania

After winning the PGA, Argo conquers the highest achievement at this year's SAGs: the Best Ensemble. What's in store now?

What now?

Argo has just won the Producers Guild Award. And its director is not even nominated for the Academy Award. I think this year we'll make history...

Italy's not the worst...

At least in my country the government has not voted (yet...) against gay propaganda (ask Putin and Medvedev about this infamous law...).

Too much

After releasing TWO fragrances, countless gadgets, useless features and A MINERAL WATER, Lady Gaga wants to study acting since she'd like to win an Oscar within five years. Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, that's too much. Please disappear. Forever.

Silver Linings Playbook

Nice, solid movie with many differences from the book, definitely good acting and a very agreeable vibe throughout the whole story. Mark: 8 / 10

Politically doubtful

I was on the verge of choosing a candidate to vote for, when he clearly stated he won't support same-sex marriages. Right, let's start from the beginning. Again.

Cast Away

Never had the chance to see this movie with Tom Hanks. He's pretty good, the rest is mere routine. Mark: 5,75 / 10

Life of Pi

Visually superb, a bit self-conceited, well acted, very well written. But the strongest aspect is the story (taken from a novel), not the movie itself. Mark: 7,25 / 10

First time ever

If Ben Affleck wins the DGA Award as Best Feature Film Director, he will mark the first time in history that a non-nominated director for the Academy Award wins this prize. Let's see...

It won't happen, but if it happens...

In about three or four months something apparently impossible to happen could come to life... Let's hope (???) and see...

Sexy Ben

Mr. Affleck, please never cut that phenomenal beard you grew: you're more than adorable this way...

A new hope?

In about forty days we'll be voting for our new government: please tell me whom I have to vote for. Please.

Migraine

Whoever keeps saying he's got "a tremendous headache" has never experienced migraine. Trust me.

Surprise

An unexpected visit from a dear dear dear friend is like a glorious dive into sheer happiness...

Academy Awards

After a thorough analysis, I can state this year's nominees genuinely suck.

What the fxxx???

Ben Affleck not nominated??????????????????????????????????? Dear members of the Academy, are you INSANE????????????????????????????

Sadness?

It's strange when you realize a friendship is trembling under the strokes of natural events; moreover, it's a bit sad when you suddenly have the impression one of your best friends seems a completely different human being in this situation.

In a nutshell

Today a friend of mine wrote this: "Life is mere shit; then you die." I don't know if I have to laugh or cry...

Coherence

Last year, Iran won the Foreign Language Picture Academy Award for the first time. The director spoke about "overcoming political issues" and was warmly applauded. This year, one of the most acclaimed movies depicts the 1979 Canadian Caper in the background of the Iran Hostage Crisis. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Why?

Frankly I can't understand why actresses such as Allison Janney, Laura Linney and Patricia Clarkson don't gain the worldwide fame and respect they deserve...

Alex

Today I'd really feel like meeting him and have a pleasant, friendly chat... I wonder when it's going to happen...

Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Day Lewis

I'm afraid Lincoln will ratify the third statuette for both the American director and the English actor: that's boring. Terribly boring.

Carolina Kostner

Talking about sports, I've never got so passionately excited: I think it's a bit preternatural watching her free program at the 2012 Worlds more than a hundred times. And always crying.

The absolute antithesis

Everything I really execrate is condensed in the essence of the midget that governed us for too many years. God, forgive me for how much I hate him.

Danny and Nicole

Today I thought about how (and where) my overseas "nephew and niece" could be in ten years, and I started to travel with my imagination...

Kate Winslet

I just saw Neverland again: I love Kate. Boundlessly.

Academy Awards

Two days left to the nominations announcement. I'm preparing to be extremely disappointed. I know it.

(Anti-) Social

I'm seriously starting to loathe Facebook and the pandemic, colossal ignorance dished out by the majority of (in)human beings populating it.

Argo

What a movie!!! And what about Ben Affleck? Stunningly unbelievable. Mark: 9 / 10

Prometheus

Nice movie, some appreciable ideas, acting consistently below my expectations. A sequel is already scheduled... Mark: 7 / 10

New Year's Eve

It was pretty strange without Marla. It was fun and relaxing, though.

Xmas

Some years ago I started "surviving" it instead of enjoying this merry feast. Is it going to change?

Tin Tin

Heartless movie with a truly remarkable visual apparatus. I've forgotten about it after a couple of minutes. Mark: 6,75 / 10
